‘Arrow’ season 3 spoilers: Former Superman to appear as another DC hero
How about this when it comes to fun casting? A man well-known for playing Superman on the big screen is heading aboard The CW’s “Arrow” for a big season 3 role … ironically playing a different member of the DC universe.
According to a new report from TVLine, Brandon Routh from “Superman Returns” has signed on for a super-important role as Ray Palmer, who is otherwise known as The Atom. He is a well-known character within the world of the comics, known for the ability to change the size and form of his body along with other objects. He’s also a supremely gifted scientist and inventor, and will have control of Queen Consolidated in some way during the third season. Also, he is poised to become a potential love interest for Felicity Smoak, who has spent most of her time harboring feelings for Oliver Queen during the series’ run.
Admittedly, we’re not the biggest connoisseur of The Atom as a character, but it feels like Routh is a great casting for this regardless. It feels almost reminiscent right now of when he joined “Chuck” for an arc as Agent Shaw, who briefly was a love interest for Sarah Walker (Yvonne Strahovski) before ultimately becoming an adversary. We’re not saying for sure that this is the direction that The Atom is heading, but this is all interesting news regardless. Routh feels like an awesome cast, given his experience, intelligence, and just the fact that he already loves the comic world. It’s hard to be upset with this sort of resume.
The show has wasted little time getting together the castings for the new season, bringing on Katana already for the story revolving around Oliver’s past in Hong Kong along with some other faces. You can read all about them over at the link here.
