‘American Horror Story: Freak Show’ spoilers: Kathy Bates surprised by Sarah Paulson role

“American Horror Story: Freak Show” is almost about to start filming, but even with that, Kathy Bates is clearly in no hurry to start sharing now just who she is going to be playing. Instead, she is more than happy to stay quiet and keep coy about everything for at least a little while longer.

One thing that she is a little more open to do? Share some of her thoughts about Sarah Paulson playing the part of a two-headed woman for the upcoming season. This is one of the big surprises that has been unveiled already, and speaking to PopSugar, she dishes on that and also how information slowly goes from one cast member to the next:

“I mean, I’m surprised that Sarah Paulson came out with that she has two heads. I was like, ‘What?!’ But I think it’s Ryan who disseminates that information when and where he wants to. I know he’s talked about the fact that we’re a freak show, and we’re sort of in the last days of the freak show … It’s in the late 1950s in Jupiter, FL, and I know what my character looks like, but I don’t know anything else about her. In fact, I’ve just gone to costume fittings, and we’re still developing the character. I haven’t seen the script yet, and we start shooting in the middle of July, so time’s a-wastin’!”

Bates said in another recent interview that she is largely still grateful for the chance to continue paying great roles, which was something that looked at least briefly in doubt for her on TV following the end of “Harry’s Law.”
