‘Big Brother 16’ live feed spoilers: Boss explains ‘Battle of the Block’ twist

Big Brother -While many of the “Big Brother 16” twists were revealed last week by Julie Chen, there was not a whole lot of concurrent speculation about how some of them would be implemented into the game. For example, were the two Head of Households going to keep that position all week long, or was the Battle of the Block Competition designed to even out the power?

Well, we’ve now got what is at least some sort of official answer to that. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, executive producer Allison Grodner explained the concept of two Head of Households, and how this new competition will rule one of them out and effectively leave two nominees on the block for the live evictions:

“It was a difference from the last few seasons where there were co-HOHs — they were either in a duo or they worked together, or, I think there was a couples thing we did one season. In this case, they’re two HOHs and each one will be nominating two people for eviction — a total of four — and they’re operating independently. They are ultimately going head to head in this competition with Battle of the Block, where one is going to end up in power and one is going to end up not in power.”

We suppose that there are still some potential wrinkles here with this competition that could make it interesting, such as if one HoH deliberately throws the competition so that a certain person can go home. That part of it could prove dramatic, and when you have players who are sitting around obsessing over this stuff week in and week out.

The more that we think about the Battle of the Block twist, the more that we are not a huge fan of it in theory. It diminishes the motivation to win Head of Household, and it penalizes heavily people who really don’t deserve to go home based on who wins this Battle of the Block. We suppose that it does potentially stop people from floating during the game, so people who like to really value competition wins should enjoy that.

We’ve been spotlighting every houseguest on the show this season, and you can read some of these now by heading over to the link here. Also, be sure to sign up in the event that you want more via our CarterMatt Newsletter.
