‘Community’ season 6: The current status of Hulu talks

The latest -It has been a while since we last heard about the future of “Community,” a show that we have consistently loved almost from the very beginning. The last update there was revolved around the possibility of Hulu, who owns the streaming rights to the show, picking it up and allowing that mythical sixth season to happen.

Are the benefits of doing so? Certainly, starting with the fact that it would be an instant boon to Hulu Plus, and an original series that people would actually pay to watch. Unfortunately, there are still many disadvantages. For one, you have a show here with a large, young, internet-savvy audience. If every single viewer were to buy Hulu Plus to watch the show, that’d be a slam-dunk. Unfortunately, we see no way of guaranteeing that. Also, there are surely many other behind-the-scenes factors given that this has been a show with a network budget for the past five years.

While these factors listed above may or may not be a factor in the decisions that Hulu is making, what we can tell you (per TVLine) is that it is currently “unlikely” that the service will pick up the show. Maybe this is a good rallying cry for fans, or just the reality of the situation right now. If the show does end, you at least have great memories, and know that it went off on a high with a great final string of episodes. The aforementioned site talked to Danny Pudi (Abed) about all of this, and he had the following to say:

“I’m not holding on to any hope. If it happens, great! If it doesn’t, I feel great about what we were able to accomplish.”

You can bet that there is going to be a decision made on this one way or another before the end of the summer, mostly because no one wants this hanging over their head forever.
