NBC’s ‘Community’ season 6: Weighing those renewal odds now

The latest -Is “Community” going to be back for another season? We know that there are few questions being asked out there with the same amount of fervor as this one when it comes to the NBC show.

Obviously from a personal point of view, we’d love to see the show back. It’s the most creative show of its kind out there, and we’re also willing to wager that there are few rivals when it comes to the pure nerdiness factor of it. Who else is going to tribute “G.I. Joe” and “Dungeons & Dragons” within the same season? If you grew up in the 80’s, this entire series is a personal love letter.

But, let’s get to facts now since the possible series finale airs tonight. “Parks and Recreation” is the only comedy for sure coming back for another season, but things are looking good for “About a Boy” and “Growing Up Fisher.” While they have the help of “The Voice” as a lead-in, NBC isn’t going to dock the shows for it. They’re just happy that they have comedies that people are actually watching. “Community” is a show that does do well with people watching online, and has a passionate following that will rejoice it getting a sixth-season renewal so that the “six seasons and a movie” prophecy is a little closer to happening. That sort of good PR is something that the network can use, even if the ratings aren’t that good.

One of the other things to consider for a positive here is that nobody in the “Community” camp seems to be particularly doom-and-gloom at the moment, and NBC head Robert Greenblatt was optimistic about its chances earlier this year at the upfront presentation. The only other reason that there may not have been a renewal alongside “Parks and Recreation”? Since their numbers are not that far apart, we think that it could have something to do with the fact that “Community” is not owned by NBCUniversal in the same capacity, and therefore there are more cooks in the kitchen. Hopefully, we’ll have more news news on a possible renewal soon. For now, just enjoy the finale! We had a chance to see it earlier in the week, and it’s a good one. You can see some more teasers here, and also be sure to also sign up to get further TV updates from our CarterMatt Newsletter.
