NBC’s ‘Hannibal’ season 2, episode 7 preview: ‘Yakimono’s’ Miriam Lass mystery
There are some things about networks that we simply don’t understand, and at the moment, one of them is why in the world NBC’s promotional department decided to spoil an incredible “Hannibal” twist prior to Friday night’s new episode airing. We didn’t post it here, mostly because the last thing that we wanted to do was ruin it for Fannibals that (spoiler alert!) Miriam Lass is still alive.
For Jack, this news is obviously huge given the connection that she had to him, but it is also huge just when it comes to the investigation himself. She is suddenly the greatest chance that anyone has of actually proving that Hannibal is the Chesapeake Ripper, given that most of Jack’s suspicions were tampered with during the episode tonight.
As always with this show, the synopsis below is rather lengthy, but stuffed full of information that you will find pretty valuable. Once again, though, be warned that there are some spoilers in here:
“When Jack Crawford’s star pupil Miriam Lass is found alive, she becomes the FBI’s best hope to identifying the Chesapeake Ripper, but her foggy memory complicates the search. Evidence found at the site of Miriam’s rescue exonerates Will Graham of any involvement in the Ripper and Copycat cases, and he is released from the asylum. Will warns Dr. Chilton that he could be in danger due to his intimate knowledge of the Ripper case, but when Chilton tries to confide in Jack that he shares Will’s fears about Hannibal, he is rebuffed no evidence has been found against Hannibal, despite the FBI’s efforts.
“Meanwhile, Jack wastes no time in reinstating Will on the BAU team as they hunt for the Ripper. After introducing Will and Miriam to compare notes, Jack’s suspicions of Hannibal’s involvement continue to build. Only Miriam’s memory holds the key to unlocking the Ripper’s true identity, but can it be trusted?”
In the end, the issue at hand in this episode is one that has been a part of many a case in the past: How reliable should you treat a witness who has been allowed the time to slowly start to lose her mind? Let’s hope that Miriam finds a way to pull it together, since otherwise, Jack is back where he started.
As for our weekly edition of “what does the title mean,” “Yakimono” is a Japanese dish that is grilled or pan-fried. Big surprise there: The title has to do with food.
As we’ve said all week, we’ll be recording our “Hannibal” podcast with Jason Prager tomorrow! (Update: It’s online now!) If you have any topics you’d like discussed, share below; also, click here to get further updates from us on all the TV we cover.
