ABC’s ‘Scandal’ season 3, episode 15 preview: Olivia, Mellie, and interview drama
We’ve seen Olivia and Mellie clash on many a topic before on “Scandal,” but we have to say that the latter’s life as a mother is something a little new that is being brought to the table now. The sneak peek below gives you a better idea of what the primary story is Thursday night, and how it could frustrate Olivia even more going into election night.
Basically, Kerry Washington’s character believes strongly that in order to squelch any talk about her family being unstable in the midst of all the rumors and tabloid stories out there, she needs to be a part of a sit-down TV interview with the children. That allows them to put on a nice little guise of stability to the public, and they therefore do not know that anything is wrong.
But, of course, there are complications. The biggest one is that Mellie simply has no interest in doing the interview. She feels like it is only going to hurt her family more than help them to do it, and expose her children to more harm. It’s a simple difference of opinion, and there is a certain amount of irony in someone who is not a mother trying to tell a mother about her children. Then again, Olivia’s speaking mostly from the vantage point of politics and public perception … which she knows very well.
Sooner or later, Mellie will have to realize (at least if she wants to stay in this job and continue to be a “supportive” First Lady) that there is a lot of garbage she has to put up with. Being on the same page with the woman who is sleeping with your husband is unfortunately part of it. If we were her, we would’ve left long ago … but clearly, she’s a very different person.
What do you think about this sneak peek, and about Olivia actually trying to give Mellie advice on how to be a mom? Sound off, as always, in the comments below! If you want to grab some more occasionally-scandalous updates from us, sign up for our CarterMatt Newsletter.

Olivia is told by her mother that all she is is the ‘help’. The events of Episode 15 go a long way to making her mother look right, which her father reinforces when he tells her that “families stick together” right as Mellie and Fitz and the children unite to do the Press interview, right after Fitz finds out that Mellie is sleeping with the VP. A lot comes to “bump” in this episode. Will Olivia turn to Jake?

This woman practically got on her hands and knees and begged Olivia to come back to the campaign and to her husband and yet she screams and hollers at Olivia when she’s giving her professional advice. Mellie has condoned this relationship from the start, and her husband has told her to her face that he’s in love with Olivia. Hopefully, Olivia doesn’t take it, because even though this is t.v., Mellie would get slapped into the next room. Mellie can’t handle her children or her husband. She definitely couldn’t handle being POTUS. Olivia and Sally are much stronger and savvy politically then Mellie. Scheming, ranting and raving doesn’t make her look smart politically just weak.
