‘Downton Abbey’ season 5: Who could be up for ‘Star Wars’ transition?
Who knew that JJ Abrams would be so interested in taking so many roles for “Star Wars” from the realm of television? It may be crazy, but that is precisely what he is trying to do.
You likely know at this point that “Girls” actor Adam Driver has been at least reasonably close to landing a gig on the show as the potential villain in the new movie. So could some actors from the world of “Downton Abbey‘ be next? It certainly appears possible. The first thing that you have to consider here is that Abrams is an enormous fan of the show, and he even toured the set last year.
Now, Variety is reporting that Ed Speleers, who you otherwise know as Jimmy, is in contention to play the part of a Jedi apprentice in the new series along with many other actors, including “Breaking Bad” alum Jesse Plemons. With all of these roles, you get the indication that the movie is not looking so much at huge names alongside the leads so much as they are hoping to just cast actors who are fantastic at what they do, and will be seen immediately in the role rather than some of the other work that they have done.
If Speleers gets the part, could it impact his future on the show? Maybe, depending on filming schedules and if “Downton Abbey” comes back. But when you think about it, we have a very hard time imagining that someone is going to be bitter or upset about him taking this job, given the huge opportunity it could be.
