‘Grey’s Anatomy’ season 10, episode 12 review: Did Jackson ruin April, Matthew’s wedding?
Tonight, “Grey’s Anatomy” had a pivotal episode in “Get Up, Stand Up,” and it set in motion a few important series of events. For one, we had the beginning of a reconciliation for Meredith and Cristina. Of course, there was also April’s wedding, and a valuable lesson about what happens when you go completely overboard to work at the hospital: Terrible things can happen to your brain.
We’ll start with that latter story, mostly because it did probably produce some of the most emotional moments of this entire episode. Basically, what we ended up seeing here was Shane getting too infatuated with his own success, and the feeling that he could save anyone. This led to some great acting from Gaius Charles, who we knew had it in him to deliver this sort of awesomeness.
As for other drama, there was what seemed to be the end for Alex and Jo as he seemed to send his father on his way. This was the big story that we’re sure that some people are going to be talking about, since it was not the sort of happy ending that we’re sure some people were hoping for. Instead, it was him realizing that this was a guy he would never be able to tolerate.
In getting back to April’s wedding, what was particularly interesting was that at first, it seemed like this was going to be a complete afterthought thanks to everything else … but then comes Jackson to shake things up! Who predicted that he’d ruin things at the altar? To us, this was so completely out of a romantic comedy, and it’s for that reason that we kind of hate it. But, at the same time, we don’t since this was Jackson reacting to what he felt in the moment, which was that he was never going to be able to be with her again if he didn’t do something.
But April’s response is now the cliffhanger, as is whether or not Derek took on some sort of new responsibility that included a call from … the President of the United States. Now, just imagine if that President was Fitzgerald Grant. Our head would instantly explode.
So this is it for “Grey’s Anatomy” until 2014, and it was by and large a good hour. It was a little too scattered and could have been better with a little more focus, but that is really all we have to complain about for now. Grade: B+.
