NBC will re-air ‘The Sound of Music Live’ on Saturday

Sound of Music Live -

NBC has not had enough of “The Sound of Music Live” just yet, at least based on what they have currently set up on their schedule for this upcoming weekend. The three-hour spectacular starring Carrie Underwood and Stephen Moyer is going to air again on Saturday from 8-11:00 p.m. Eastern time, which feels like an incredibly smart move for them to make right now.

One of the reasons why the network is so wise to re-air this? It wasn’t probably until around hour two that it really became apparent that this was going to be something that people were going to talk about for weeks to come, and some out there may want to actually sit back and catch the full thing this weekend (especially if you’re in the northeast and you don’t want wander around in all of the snow). Also, nearly 19 million people watched this the first time. Even if you are only able to get a tiny fraction of that, getting 4 million viewers on a weekend for a musical re-airing would be considered a win.

While NBC looks to get some more ad revenue out of this, the network is already hard at work trying to figure out exactly what they are going to be doing next in the world of staging musicals. The network’s head Robert Greenblatt has already confirmed that the network is looking at other possible stage shows to adapt, and we personally believe that one like “Annie” or maybe a modern classic like “Wicked” would be a frontrunner. You would need to get a show that almost everyone around the country is already familiar with, and the former one may be an advantage at least in that almost everyone also already knows some of the music. The only downside would be that you were putting so much of your future in the hands of a child actor, and it is certainly hard to guarantee that it will turn out well.

Of course, if you don’t want to wait until Saturday to watch the full musical, we have it for you in its entirety below.
