‘America’s Got Talent’ alum Jackie Evancho performs National Anthem at Lions – Packers game
Today in Detroit, the NFL kicked off the first of what is going to be a triple-header of football on Thanksgiving Day, as the Lions ended up squaring off against the Green Bay Packers. But before the game even began, there was an opportunity to hear a performance of the National Anthem from someone who already has a little bit of a career in reality TV: Jackie Evancho.
Evancho of course was first known for her role as a contestant on “America’s Got Talent,” where she road an amazing voice all the way to the finals on her season. Since that point, she has released a number of successful albums and songs, mostly highlighting the fact that she is an incredible singer despite still being very young. She’s got a voice, after all, that could fill any orchestra hall across the country.
While we know that it is very easy to sit here and make snide remarks about someone when they blow part of “The Star-Spangled Banner,” (which she didn’t) we also have to give credit where credit’s due: This was a great performance. This is also the first time that many have probably seen the now-13-year old singer in a while, and it was so good exposure to get her back in the spotlight a little bit. She also received an enthusiastic response from the crowd, which is not always a given at such events. Football fans can be pretty harsh sometimes, especially if they are in a bad mood or if their team is losing.
The National Anthem is of course a tradition before every NFL game, but it tends to draw so much more attention on Thanksgiving simply due to the fact that these games are thrust onto a national stage.
What did you think about Jackie’s National Anthem performance? Share some of your thoughts below! We’re going to have a video of the performance here soon enough, so be sure to come back soon for that.

The best version of the National Anthem was by Whitney Houston at the Super Bowl. I never thought I’d hear anything close – until now.

I find it interesting that Jackie’s perfect performance of the Anthem was taken off of you-tube. Are they afraid that we will compare here to the hacks that they usually have sing it? They need to understand that she is the incomparable Jackie Evancho and get over it. She has the ability to take any song and make it spectacular.

This version sets a new standard – beautifully sung without showing off,
Respectful but still stunning.
What a talent!

Sorry I missed it. I am still upset that Jackie did not perform at the World Series in either St. Louis or Boston.

Great a cappella rendition! I like this one even more than her fabulous performance at the Capitol on July4th.

Absolutely beautiful ! Didn’t know who she was – I was amazed to hear not one note off key … Hardly ever happens !! Kept it so simple – very pure … I commented to my husband who missed it ” I think I just heard the most perfectly sung national anthem ever”

Definately one of the best Anthem performances ever. Didn’t even need the extra long note near the end. Like it would have sounded that morning long ago.

This is the second time in six months that she has sang the National Anthem before a huge crowed. The first time was on the Mall in Washington D.C. on the 4th of July. That time her audience numbered in the hundreds of thousands live plus the TV audience.

Simply amazing. Consider that she didn’t miss a word or a note and she did it, staying in perfect pitch without any musical accompaniment. She is a delight to the ear, and she’s a very nice person, as well.

Best National Anthem that I can remember, of any sport, at any time. I’d rather watch and listen to her than most of the halftime shows they put on.
Bravo!

She made it about the song not the singer
