‘The Vampire Diaries’ season 5 spoilers: Paul Wesley, Candice Accola on Stefan / Caroline debate
But what is somewhat interesting in looking at this debate today is that it really varies depending on who you are talking to about it. When it comes to Paul Wesley, he seems to be just operating on some sort of assumption that a hookup with happen, at least based on the direction that the story has taken. Just read his quote below via TVLine for evidence:
“The writers really like to tease [Stefan and Caroline]. They always have that there, but they don’t quite do anything with it. I’m always a little confused. I don’t know if we’re going for it or not, so when I do scenes with Caroline, I’m always like, ‘Am I supposed to be playing this platonic, here?’ … I would imagine that they’re going to go into that direction because they keep hinting at that,”
So what about Candice Accola? Based on her own comments to the website, she believes that Caroline perceives Stefan in a very specific way, and that is a line that will probably not be crossed:
“Even though, maybe from an audience perspective, there’s some great, very easy moments with them together [that] could be looked [at] as ‘chemistry,’ I don’t think that the characters in their world see it as that. To Caroline, Stefan is just a friend and a companion — and Elena’s one true love. She wants Elena and Stefan to be together.”
So who do we side with? At the moment, there is very little debating it: We are team Candice on this one. The show needs to have one sort of platonic guy-girl relationship that adds a different sort of dynamic to the proceedings. If Stefan and Caroline were to hook up, it would just make everything much more awkward and complicated, given that you know where Stefan’s heart lies, and Klaus is also going to be back in town eventually to presumably try to go after Caroline all over again.
If you want more evidence that Stefan is really still trying to deal with his feelings for Elena, the sneak peek at this link should provide everything you are hoping for.
