‘How I Met Your Mother’ ‘spin-off’ ‘How I Met Your Dad’ ordered to pilot

The first thing that you should know about this series is that it’s not a spin-off in the sense that it stars someone that you’ve come to know necessarily from this show. It will feature new characters, including a female lead who obviously tries to tell the story to her kids of how she met her father. We know that there were some out there who wanted to see a spin-off of the same name starring Cristin Milioti, but we think that we understand the issues with that: It would force viewers to rely on references from a decade ago, make viewers wonder why Milioti looked the same nine years ago as she does not, and create all sorts of chaos for the writers when it came to keeping track of the timelines.
Although this hasn’t been announced, it would not remotely shock us if we were to find out that “How I Met Your Dad” was at least teased in the series finale; take, for example, that the star of the new show is working at Barney and Robin’s wedding. That would at least provide a pretty nifty little link between this show and the original. The biggest challenge for Carter Bays, Craig Thomas, and Emily Spivey of “Up All night” (who is coming on board this show) is going to be convincing fans that this is worth it, and not just a cheap attempt to capitalize on the franchise. It makes sense for CBS to try it, given that most of their new comedies have disappointed and “The Big Bang Theory” is the only comedy with huge ratings, but this will either work out great or be canceled by the end of one season. There’s really no in-between, and casting will play a big part.
