‘How I Met Your Mother’ season 9 spoilers: New photo featuring John Lithgow

Are you just as excited as we are to see more of John Lithgow on “How I Met Your Mother”? The former “3rd Rock from the Sun” star is returning to the CBS series later this season as Barney’s biological father, and on this occasion, Wayne Brady is also getting in on the act.

Thanks to a new post on his Twitter account, you can see Brady alongside the likes of Lithgow and Neil Patrick Harris as they film at least one scene from an upcoming episode. Given that they are not anywhere near the wedding just yet, don’t expect that to be the first time that you see Lithgow turn up. This will hopefully serve as a nice little introduction to the character, and we know already that we are going to see him actually share a few scenes with Frances Conroy this time around.

What we are personally the most curious about is how in the world this show is going to pull everyone in to make the wedding go off without a hitch. There are so many guest stars that really should be at the wedding and at least for the time being we are naming Lucy Hale the most-likely to not appear again, given that it has been years since we last saw her as Robin’s sister Katie. Plus, she has both “Pretty Little Liars” and an upcoming country music album to promote. That doesn’t leave much time in the schedule. We hope that every single relevant guest star is going to be coming back on the show, but we have to be honest here and say that it’s unlikely. There is just too massive a group to round up.

There are some more episodes of “How I Met Your Mother” to come prior to Lithgow’s appearance on the show, including one that will involve Marshall having to deal with telling Lily all about his decision to become a judge in New York City. Also, the promo here confirms that we are going to be seeing more of the Mother next week.
