‘Homeland’ season 3, episode 4 preview: Saul vs. Carrie, round 2?
In the first showdown-of-sorts between Carrie and Saul on “Homeland” season 3, it was pretty clear just who the winner was based on one simple result: Carrie got herself locked in a psych ward. Saul had won out, based primarily on the battle of PR. Carrie was made out to be the fall guy in the eyes of millions, and he was allowed to try and rebuild the CIA without any sort of distraction or negative stigma attached to it.
So just how is Saul going to feel about seeing Carrie eventually work her way out of the mental hospital? Not particularly great; as a matter of fact, we imagine his emotional state right now to be somewhere along the lines of “confused” and “concerned.” The preview video below, Mandy Patinkin’s character echoes these feelings, and says that they need to get Carrie under control, and soon.
Thus far, the problem this season is that rather than persevering and finding a way to survive, the show has managed to perpetuate the whole “Carrie is crazy” storyline to new lengths. We have been down this road before, and there is really no reason to keep it going again! What we want to see for her is a new beginning of sorts, and an opportunity to clear her name and figure out how she can also save Brody in the process. This is a man who clearly needs any support possible, given that he is basically stuck in Venezuela in an abandoned tower, where he is set to be anonymous forever until the day he dies. There is no other way for him to go on living right now unless he wants to go to prison and possibly die there. Do you think a perceived traitor is really going to get much of a fair trial?
