‘Army Wives’ canceled by Lifetime; ‘season 8’ will be two-hour retrospective
Just as many thought with all of the cast changes last year, the end is just about here for “Army Wives.” After running for seven years and becoming Lifetime’s longest-running drama, the network decided to cancel the show on Tuesday. It’s certainly sad news, and it does make us wonder why they could not just keep all of the original cast around and wrap things up in a way that gave most fans the closure they wanted in that form.
In a statement that serves as confirmation as to the show’s cancellation, Lifetime GM praised the series, and thanked everyone involved for their efforts in keeping the show (an ABC Studios production) around for as long as they did:
“There is no denying how special Army Wives has been to both Lifetime and the television landscape. By taking on a very relevant and timely issue, it has brilliantly captured the challenges our military families endure and the bravery they and their loved ones display while serving our country. It has been an honor to be the home of Army Wives. We also want to thank Army Wives’ passionate legion of fans and everyone involved with the series: ABC Studios, Mark Gordon and Jeff Melvoin,Tanya Biank, every single cast member, as well as the crew and community of Charleston, South Carolina. Without their dedication, effort and loyalty, Army Wives’seven wonderful seasons would not have been possible; and for that we are very grateful.”
While it is frustrating that there is no actual series finale, season 8 is simply going to become nothing more than a two-hour retrospective airing next year. There are no details yet as to what this special will contain, but we’ll be sure to share them as soon as they are available.
For now, we ask you what you think: Are you disappointed in the cancellation? Be sure to share in the comments below.

Very disappointed in it being cancelled and last season ending like it was coming back. You got everyone looking forward to more w the new characters and then you cancel it. You need to at least bring it back so you can end it properly. Not this two hour thing. That doesn’t cut it after watching for seven seasons.

Agree with everyone else who has posted. VERY disappointing. It was a great show and Iooked forward to it every Sunday. Even with the changes, it was good. It was actually a breath of fresh air from Lifetime’s traditional suspension, women-gone-bad (for lack of better wording) movies and reality shows. To bad all the way around!

I agree; they should reconsider. Army wives is the best show ever. LOVE THE NEW CAST. I loved the changes. This show gave me a new perspective of what the people (soldiers, family, friends, etc.) go through in the army.
I stopped watching LIFETIME.

I will miss one of the most enjoyable programs. It had many avenues to explore and just chose to leave us hanging. I appreciated how they combined the friendships no matter the rank of the person. Joan was a great example of what heights a strong woman could accomplish. God bless all our service wives they are special people. Boo Lifetime.

Like most shows that do well and/or well liked by most, this show recieved the ax. I, personally, am NOT a fan of the reality shows…like Honey Boo Boo, the Kardashians,,Bridezillas etc. And cartoons that make you wonder what brain dead idiot thought the show up….Army Wives offered a close to reality look inside our military, their lives and events that occur. As a former service member AND an Army wife, I found I related and understood what this show portrayed…And yes..though some of the incidents that occurred were not as it actually happens in real life, the jist of these bits was that like in civilian life, military life is just as hard, if not harder for our military, their families and dealing with losses, friendships etc is just as hard for them as it is us and they struggle as cilvilians do. They celebrate as we do, they cry as we do,etc.
Lifetime ought to reconsider their decision!

Very disappointed! This was a high quality show with real issues and intelligent script writing, in addition to great actors and actresses. The character development was deep, intriguing and appealing. I will miss this show, as it is one of 3 that I watch. And Lifetime has lost me as a customer. All the other shows are bland and redundant.
