‘America’s Next top Model: Guys & Girls’ review: The worst challenge ever(?) and more

The latest -America’s Next Top Model: Guys & Girls” this week was pretty awkward. The entire first ten minutes of the episode was spent dealing with some crazy drama regarding a telephone, which was something that was really just more of an example of Jourdan being the token “me me me” person of this season. The only thing we’ll give her a tiny bit of credit for here is not being as awful as the show is making her out to be by overplaying the “abusive relationship” thing. If she hadn’t told Jeremy, her good friend in the house, then she is not talking about it nearly as much as the show is telling us she is.

Moving on…

First challenge – It may be a slight exaggeration to say that this was the worst challenge ever, but it’s up there. Basically, you had to stand there and let Perez Hilton use you as a puppet so that you could subtly mock people for not having great fashion taste or to embarrass them. You see, Perez has backed off on some of his old bullying tactics, but he’s still passive-aggressive. We give major ups to Marvin, who stuck up for himself even at the expense of his game. Meanwhile, Jeremy won for more or less taking off his shirt.

Second challenge – This was just all kinds of awkward. The role reversal idea of this was pretty fantastic, but the kiss at the end? Something that’s not entirely needed, and it was just designed to be gratuitous. We suppose that there was good drama in it for some people (see Marvin licking Renee), and Phil and Jiana continuing down this awkward road that probably has Phil in trouble with his girlfriend back home. We really don’t get what’s up with him at all, though he seems excellent at doing well despite being a bit of a goof.

Cory, finally getting a chance to do something he was more comfortable with (by his own admission) than the others, won his first episode of the season. Meanwhile, Jiana was in the bottom alongside Alexandra, only memorable because she missed her mom and was upset over the phone drama. We can’t say that we will miss her much, mostly because we never got to know her on the show. It’s possible that she could come back, but we doubt it; her mom should ultimately be proud of her, though; she did not do terribly, and she also managed to get through this with her dignity intact.
