‘Happily Divorced’ canceled by TV Land after two seasons

Sad news -While TV Land’s signature sitcom “Hot in Cleveland” may now be well on its way to airing its 100th episode, it appears as though “Happily Divorced” is not going to be able to celebrate on anywhere near the same level. The Fran Drescher comedy, which aired its last episode in February, has been officially canceled now by the network after two seasons.

As for the reason why, it’s the same reason why there are so many other shows on TV that are kicked to the wayside: The ratings were not good enough to keep going. It’s sad, but it’s also the reality of what happens in an age where there are A) so many other options and B) everyone can record their shows on their DVRs rather than watching them live.

In the end, we still do think that TV Land has itself a very smart business model right now, even though not all of their shows end up working at the end of the day. They go out, find some comedy legends from other sitcoms, and then give them new homes and shows that attract their old following. Take for exactly the upcoming “Kirstie” starring Kirstie Alley, and a success story in “The Exes.” (Try to say that phrase a 10 times fast.)

As for Drescher, we’re sure that she will eventually land on her feet somewhere, and we’re just glad that the network gave her a platform to have a show again that her fans could check out.
