ABC’s ‘Castle’ season 6: ABC praises Nathan Fillion, Stana Katic at TCA
Today’s TCA panel for ABC featured all sorts of discussion on some of the network’s most-popular shows, but there was one subject that Paul Lee did not seem to be particularly willing to touch with a ten-foot pole: The recent drama at “Castle” when it comes to Nathan Fillion intentionally missing a Friday in what was a contract dispute over a four-day work week. We’ve published our take on this in the past, making the argument that when you consider the hours that he already puts in, we don’t have any problem with him getting some time off.
But what does Lee have to say about this? Basically, just the following quote:
“Nathan and Stana [Katic] are fantastic actors. We feel super-optimistic [about the future of the show].”
Yes, that’s it: No discussion about anything other than a compliment thrown in the direction of Fillion and Katic. In the end, we do not see this dispute (if you can call it that, since there has only been one incident, as far as we know) derailing the show or the production. Plus, Fillion makes repeated efforts to honor and toast the crew, which probably means that the set itself is pretty peaceful and not even remotely hostile.
To us, the future of “Castle” is going to revolve more around just how much of the story is there really left to tell, and not necessarily whether or not there are contractual issues. Our personal hope would be to see season 7 be the end, given that this is an amount of time to tell the full story of Rick and Kate, and not push so far that the entire story becomes drilled into the ground.
Do you think that “Castle” still has a long life in the future? If you want to see who is going to be joining Fillion on the show this season, be sure to head on over to the link here.

It really upsets me when people, who call themselves true fans of the show, talk about wanting it to end at 7 – that 7 seasons is ideal. No, it’s not. If you’ve paid attention to this show at all, and the people behind it, you know and trust that there’s a lot more in the box. Successful shows run 8 seasons and go out on top. 7, to me, would be cutting short of that and it’s ideal. This show has more than lived up to its potential and shows not a sign of letting up so anything less than 8 would be a disservice to true fans of this show and its many stories that await us.

Why the heck, I ask, would you be so negative? One of the pillars of Castle support is our need to imagine and seek escape and enjoy the show. Why concentrate on a “tiff” involving a cast member and then suggest it should end. I’m glad you weren’t around when they were considering next year for the “I Love Lucy” show.
You are a run of the mill boring Hollywood ego writer. Go away or learn to be creative.

I really love this show and because I do, I would hate see it become boring. I think if not this Season, then Season 7 should be the last. Its main storyline is the relationship between the show’s leading characters, whilst solving crimes and so far this has, in my opinion been handled well. By all accounts September will see a shift from the norm and bring ‘significant changes’ to the couple’s relationship which will inject a refreshing change to the show. However I would hate to see it dragged out the way they have done in Bones, which by the way, I still remain loyal to, but feel that it should have been rounded up a couple of Seasons ago. Grey’s Anatomy is another show which in my opinion is living on borrowed time. I would really hate Castle to go down the same road and be forced to come up with overly outlandish and contrived plotlines to try and keep the ratings up.
I therefore think the Castle train should reach its timely destination within the next couple of years, In the meantime I look forward to September.

This should be the last season for Castle. Nathan deserves more. He has to play in tv shows/movies like firefly/serenity. He is our Captain and it is time for our Captain to move on.

I wish it would go on FOREVER but Nathan said in the past his ideal show would only run 6 or 7 seasons so it would last, but quit while it’s on top, and also it would free him up for more projects. I think I heard Stana say something similar before. But seriously, it’s the best show on TV and I’ll be sad to see it go. I hope we can at least get a season 7 out of it.

I too hope the series goes at least through Season 7, which if I understand normal series contracts, is the last season the original series cast is contracted to. That said, I would love to see a Season 6 wedding and a season 7 baby. I don’t agree that it would be difficult to sustain a storyline past a seventh season, but at least 7 seasons would give the writers and Andrew the chance to explore new aspects of the Caskett relationship that can be both interesting and entertaining.

I love Castle. I watch it every day. I always wonder if Nathan is as kind and nice off screen as he is on screen. I especially love the relationship between Castle and his daughter, Alexis. It seems so natural. His screen mother is a “hoot”. And, of course Castle and Beckett are great together. The two detectives, the one Irish and the other Hispanic just make the group dynamic perfect. And, I can’t forget the actresses who play the coroner and “Sir”. Wow! What a cast. I wish I could met them all in person sometime. I sure hope Stana doesn’t leave. The cliffhanger was worrisome. Oh well, “just keep going Castle!”. I love the show.

I know that everything has to come to an end but I will only allow the end if both Caskett and Esplanie are married and have babies and Braken is either behing bars or dead.
But saying that, I would love to see all of them in new projects, maybe something they haven’t done before?

No way, it will go at least 8 seasons.

Nathan’s contract goes through Season 7. I’d be very surprised if he chooses to extend it. I think he wants to do other things.

Actually, I am more worried about Stana. She may want to do other things with her fearless attitude. But, like anything, don’t look a gift horse in the mouth. Castle is a great gig and they may get huge pay raises after Season 7.

this show with it’s amazing talent and well written shows could go on for a long time and keep fresh and entertaining. The fact that you seem to have a problem keeping up with the story says more about your staying power then the performers, writers and audience!

what does last line mean as it states so far that the entire story becomes drilled into the house
