‘Doctor Who’ season 8: Matt Smith explains why female Doctor is possible
Over a full month now into the search to discover just who is going to be the newest star of “Doctor Who,” and we still do not imagine that we are really any closer to figuring out who it is going to be than we were when we started. There has been some rumors floated about, but there has not really been that much in the way of evidence to back any the claims up.
Clearly, one of the hottest movements among some of the fans has been the talk about us possibly seeing a lady take on the role of the Doctor for a time, with Helen Mirren’s name surfacing despite her not really having any interest in the role at all. While we still see this possibility as unlikely, given that the producers have never really pushed the envelope before with a female choice, Matt Smith reportedly said recently that he could definitely see it happening at some point:
“The Doctor is a complete alien. It can be anyone, that’s the great thing about the part.”
Smith also joked about how his end as the character during the Christmas special this year could be him transforming into a member of the opposite sex:
“I feel like I already know [my ending]. There’s a golden light, I open a Tardis, put my arms out and turn into a woman.”
We do imagine that there could be an announcement on the next Doctor within a few weeks’ time, and it seems unlikely that they will turn up at Comic-Con today and suddenly bellow out a name to the masses. Regardless of what they do, we will have more information for you soon.
