The Rookie season 9 premiere date: A July 2026 update

Is there a chance that we are going to be hearing something more about The Rookie season 9 between now and the end of the month?

There is certainly a good bit to say when it comes to the future of the Nathan Fillion series that has us pretty darn excited — so where do we start? Well, how about an update on a season 8 story? According to a new report from Deadline, an extended cut of episode 10 titled “His Name Was Martin” is going to be released on July 20. This is rare for a network TV show, but it is a chance to get a few minutes of additional footage to tide you over to when the series comes back on the air.

So as for when that is going to be, this does bring you back to the sad realization that you are going to be waiting for a little while still. There is no firm date out there yet, but ABC is likely not going to move from their commitment of airing The Rookie starting in January and moving into May. This is a trend that they started a little while back and from where we stand, there is no real reason to think that this is going to change. It performs the best in the ratings this way! An exact date will likely be unveiled at some point moving into the fall.

What we are trying to say here is ultimately quite simple: As great as it would be to get more intel on the next chapter soon, you are probably going to be stuck waiting a little bit. In the meantime, let’s just hope we can get a few story teases and reasons to be excited.
