Ponies canceled; no season 2 coming to Peacock

Months after it initially premiered over at Peacock, we do finally have bad news regarding Ponies season 2. To be specific, more of the show is not going to be coming.
The latest update on the show’s future (per Variety) does not come as a huge shock, though it would have been nice to see another chapter. The spy drama had a great cast led by Emilia Clarke and Haley Lu Richardson, and seemed to at least have some modest success when it premiered. It was also well-received by critics, and we like to think that this would have been beneficial towards its future, as well.

So why not bring the show back for more? Well, the simplest answer that is worth noting right now is that the total viewership did not justify the cost, and for whatever reason, a number of scripted entities at Peacock have failed to find the massive success of their reality-TV offerings like The Traitors and Love Island. Our hope is that they do continue to make an effort, mostly out of hopes that something will eventually break out there.
As for the cast, we’ve long hoped that Richardson could end up coming to The White Lotus at some point, especially since Portia is one of the only remaining loose ends out there who has some sort of knowledge regarding Tanya. Meanwhile, we really just want Clarke to find another hit. Ever since her breakout role on Game of Thrones many of her other projects have faced a fair number of struggles — take something like Secret Invasion, which had a great premise but was too disjointed to ever live up to expectations.
As for whether Ponies could land somewhere else, never say never — but the odds are fairly low, as is often the case with streaming.
