The Vampire Lestat season 3 episode 2: Gabriella’s impact

Just based on the way that The Vampire Lestat season 3 episode 1 concluded, it feels fair to say Gabriella will be central to what is to come. How can she not? We are speaking here about Lestat’s mother, someone who is a significant part of his past. Also, there’s the romantic side of things now that makes the whole narrative fundamentally twisted.
Beyond just the familial aspect of this story, we tend to think there is one obvious challenge here, as well — the fact that Gabriella was not even mentioned in Interview with the Vampire seasons 1 and 2. Why was that? We hope to get answers on that and beyond just that, what Lestat’s relationship is with her now.

Speaking to AMC, executive producer Rolin Jones notes the importance of adapting some Gabriella material from the books, but then also cultivating the story to fit the framework of the first two seasons of the show:
Almost all the Gabriella stuff was really important to us, and we made decisions there about whether we would keep all that. For instance, when Lestat first goes out with Gabriella, that is our version. It’s in Toledo in the here and now, and they haven’t seen each other for a while. So, it’s more about figuring out what’s it like to be with those two? How’s it different than when he went out hunting with Louis — all those details. So much of the challenge of a third season is that we’ve got to top what we did in previous seasons and we’ve got to make you reengage with all of that stuff too.
This may all prove to be a complicated balancing act but after watching The Vampire Lestat already transform itself into a totally different sort of show, we are certainly of the belief the team can pull it off.
