Is Fire Country new tonight on CBS? It may go without saying, but of course it would be nice to have more of the Max Thieriot series in the relatively near future. This is a show with a lot of memorable characters, and its small-town community feel does make it stand out from some similar stuff within this genre.
Unfortunately, this is where we do now have to come in here with some of the regrettable news — you are going to be waiting a while to see it return. Last week served as the season 4 finale!

We do admit that if there was one thing especially surprising about the end of Fire Country season 4, it was the real lack of a major cliffhanger. We imagine that the writers recognized that there was no way to really top what they did at the end of season 3 when it comes to jaw-droppers, and this does now allow the show a chance to reset a little and give everyone a chance to breathe. There will be more danger ahead still, mostly because that is the nature of the beast here. Where would the show be if there were not constant rescue missions across Edgewater?
If there is one thing that you should be aware of far in advance here, it is the rather simple fact that season 5 will be shorter than what we’ve seen as of late. This may be a bummer for those who like to watch 18-20 episodes in a given year, but there is a silver lining in that it could allow for more consistent arcs and less content that comes and goes. While CBS is a network that often does lean towards procedurals, there is at least an opportunity here to take on a few more serialized arcs. It remains to be seen just how much the show really chooses to embrace it but for now, we at least know the opportunity is there.
