Widow’s Bay season 1 episode 8: Is the crisis actually over?

Coming into Widow’s Bay season 1 episode 8 on Apple TV next week, there is no denying that the producers have a challenge. After all, consider the fact here that there are only three episodes left this season, and there are so many questions that remain.

We could get into a lot of the finer details of the mythology — plus all the clues and individual nuances — but there is one thing that stands above all else. Is the nightmare actually over for the town at this point?

On one level, it is certainly easy to think so, thanks in part to the fact that Richard is dead and in theory, you could argue that this stops the entity, otherwise known as the being who seems to be causing the madness. However, does this mean that nobody else made a metaphorical deal with the devil? Did Tom? He may deny it, but do we believe him?

Well, there is one other thing that you have to consider here, and that is the fact that Richard was in a sort of buried-alive stasis for three hundred years, give or take. How could he know what has been going on in the town? Even if some entity told him, why would they believe him?

In general, we would argue that trust is one of the most important themes that seems to be present throughout this story. We are seeing, time and time again, questions when it comes to belief on this show. Can anyone in this town believe in anyone else? Evan, for example, certainly cannot believe in his father — and that idea alone is heartbreaking.
