Widow’s Bay season 1 mystery: Who is the Boogeyman?

One of the great things about Widow’s Bay season 1 in its totality is that we have been able to see such a wide array of content. Already, we have certainly laughed on a number of occasions, but there has also been been plenty of mystery and horror. In particular, we’ve had a chance to see a lot of unresolved lore from the past, with the Boogeyman serving as a prime example of this.
So who, or what, is the Boogeyman? A lot of the finer details are at this point a little bit vague and yet, there are a few things that we know. Take, for starters, that this is someone who took out a number of people in the town but, somehow, not Patricia. There are those who question whether or not she lied about her story and yet, the lore of the past incidents still loom large. For a prime example, take a look at what we saw with their residence on this past episode with Evan.

Ultimately, whoever said Boogeyman is / was feels like it will prove important in understanding what is truly happening within this town. Are they haunted by the past, or is that just a smokescreen for something more insidious? The truth here is in some way tied to one of the show’s big questions, which is whether or not there are truly some supernatural occurrences happening in the community or not. While it may be a stretch to say that there are some explanations for everything that we are seeing in the community at this point, you can at least argue that a few parts of it have some rooting in what we have learned. (After all, those mushrooms can certainly cause hallucinations, no?)
Even if episode 6 does not give us all the answers this coming week, let’s at least hope for a few breadcrumbs. Is that too much to ask for?
