Survivor 51 premiere date hopes following season 50 finale

Given that tonight marks the big season 50 finale of Survivor, is there more that we can say already when it comes to Survivor 51?

As many of you may know already, CBS has already confirmed that the Jeff Probst hosted reality competition show is going to be coming back for not just one, but two more cycles. We are getting at least a season 52 and within that, we imagine that the show will have an opportunity to try and reinvent itself once more. We do think there are some parts of the past few seasons that are more than likely not going to change all that much. Take, for example, the 26-day format or filming in Fiji. For production and/or cost reasons, these are things that work out really well for them. Everything in between, however, feels like it can be tweaked.

We recognize that the criticisms of the new era have been out there for years now, whether it be the somewhat-repetitive casting (at least when it comes to personalities) or the overabundance of twists that take away player agency. We also do think the show has become a bit meta; do we really need to hear that playing Survivor is someone’s dream, given that they went through the whole process of being cast? The show still has brilliant strategic moments and can still spawn great storytelling, but the best episodes are always the most organic.

As for when season 51 should premiere, it is already on the CBS fall schedule and within that, we do tend to think it will arrive come late September. A more official premiere date is likely to surface over the course of the summer, so our advice is to keep your eyes peeled for that — and some sort of preview during tonight’s finale.
