Saturday Night Live: Chad Smith is Will Ferrell; more Aziz Ansari

We of course came into the Saturday Night Live cold open tonight with expectations for something huge. After all, it’s the finale!
Well, we did have a feeling that we were going to see Will Ferrell in the cold open, mostly due to the fact alumni often do dive back into the show right away when they return. Here, the iconic cast member played … Jeffrey Epstein? Somehow, it happened. It is hard to speak to the accuracy of this impression, but of course Ferrell played this to the best of his ability.

As it turns out, Ferrell really just served as a way to bring out some of the Greatest Hits of the entire season. That meant bringing back Kristi Noem (Ashley Padilla), Pete Hegseth (Colin Jost), and then also Kash Patel (Aziz Ansari, appearing for the third straight episode). From there, we had a shocking musical performance of “Just the Two of Us” featuring Epstein and Trump.
Suffice it to say, this one is going to ruffle feathers online.
Then, Chad Smith
Ferrell chose to do one of the most random openings ever, having musician Chad Smith come out pretending to be the Anchorman cast member. Has this ever happened before? What made this even funnier was seeing Paul McCartney come on stage still acting as though this was Chad Smith, leading to Ferrell reading off a number of the iconic Beatle’s various credits.
Was this monologue that impressive after the cold open? Hardly, but this was really SNL at its best, utilizing some surprises and just allowing us to have a bit of fun before we ended up getting to the rest of the show. It’s pretty hard to be mad about anything we had here in general.
