Widow’s Bay season 1 episode 3: What is Wyck’s goal?

Heading into Widow’s Bay season 1 episode 3 on Apple TV, there are clearly so many things to love about the show overall. It is imaginative, quirky, full of horror, and also a little bit of comedy. There aren’t a lot of other shows out there like it!
We know that at the corner of the series at present is Tom (Matthew Rhys), the Mayor of this small town that really does want to see the community flourish. However, at the same time he has a lot of resistance — namely from Wyck (Stephen Root), a beloved local who claims that the whole place is cursed.

So is Wyck really right with his assumption? In his mind he thinks so and above all else, he feels like what he is doing is the best way to protect the town. Speaking to The Wrap, here is what Root had to say about the role:
“He’s a protector … He really feels that he wants to protect this island, and there’s this interloper coming in and doing bad things, like bringing people here! As much as Tom is doing what he can to help the community, I’m doing just as much to keep them away. I love the conflict.”
Ultimately, we also do not think that this conflict is going to stop anytime soon. Tom is actually realizing more and more that there is something off about the town but at the same time, does that mean he will stop his efforts? Hardly. After all, some things to him could be explainable — take the hotel room being infected by black mold. This may actually represent the residents’ fears really getting the best of them.
