Boston Blue season 1 episode 13: How did Henry Reagan return?

We knew heading into Boston Blue season 1 episode 13 there was going to be a chance to see Len Cariou back as Henry Reagan. However, there were questions that remained — including how exactly he would impact the overall story.

Well, first and foremost, Henry’s arrival served as an opportunity to check in on his grandson and give him encouragement, even though he was now working in a different city. Meanwhile, he noted that he himself had worked with Boston cops on a far larger case, and this gave him a chance to reconnect with some old friends. It was nice to see that he hasn’t lost a step since his days on Blue Bloods — not only that, but he met some of the Silver family and was more involved here at times than he even was on the original show. Lena got a chance to learn more of where Danny got some of his personality from, both as a person and a cop.

As the episode went along, we did get a chance to see “Gramps” get a little more involved in the case — even if he can’t chase down criminals, he does have a nice bit of knowledge. We also learned in here that at some point, Danny does actually have to be on the street in uniform before he becomes a proper Boston cop.

Now, here is a reminder that even though Cariou’s appearance on the show is a one-time thing for now, you never know what the future will hold. Also, here is another reminder that we are also going to see Marisa Ramirez (Baez) and Bridget Moynahan (Erin) back before the season is over. Given that there is a season 2 coming, who knows who else could be coming down the road?
