Today Apple TV revealed some big news when it comes to For All Mankind, and you can certainly argue here that this is bittersweet.

First and foremost, let’s go ahead and note that the series will be coming back for a season 6. However, this is going to be the final chapter. We imagine that there are a lot of emotional moments that will come with this, but we also have to wonder the following: How far out are some of these characters going to go into space?

In a statement, here is what executive producers Matt Wolpert and Ben Nedivi had to say:

“Getting to explore the For All Mankind universe over six seasons has been an amazing privilege, and we’re thrilled to have the opportunity to finish the story the way we’ve always hoped … We’re incredibly proud of what this series has become, and grateful to Apple TV and Sony Pictures Television for helping us see it through to its final chapter.”

Meanwhile, Matt Cherniss, head of programming for Apple TV, added the following:

“From being one of the first Apple Originals to launch on Apple TV in 2019, ‘For All Mankind’ has remained an innovative, epic sci-fi series that has enthralled fans season after season … As one of Apple TV’s most enduring and celebrated series, it has delivered time and again because of the extraordinary artistry of visionary storytellers Ron, Matt, and Ben, along with our partners at Sony, and we can’t wait for people to experience how this story comes to its exhilarating conclusion when the final season debuts next year.”

Now, remember that even though we are saying goodbye to the flagship version of the show, remember that there is also more coming in the form of the Star City spin-off — and who knows just how long that is going to last?
