One Piece season 2 finale: The Sir Crocodile, Alabasta Saga reveal

We had a good feeling entering One Piece season 2 that the show would be setting up the Alabasta Saga — but now, it is confirmed more than ever!

After all, much of season 2 built up to some very specific reveals, and that included the fact that Mr. 0, the leader of the Baroque Works, is Joe Manganiello’s character of Sir Crocodile. He is set to be a significant adversary of the Straw Hat Pirates moving forward as the series takes on a pretty notable (and lengthy) story arc from the source material. Meanwhile, Princess Vivi is also poised for an even larger story thanks to the plan to take out the remainder of the Baroque Works.

What is so smart about what we’re seeing right now from One Piece is that there is a clear effort to provide diversity insofar as geography goes for some of these stories, and to make each chapter feel like somewhat of a visual feast in its own right. We have noted this before, but the show has done a really tremendous job of working to capture the tone and the humor of both the manga and the anime — something that is incredibly hard to pull off much of the time.

Do we think that some events of the next story arc could be condensed? They almost have to since otherwise, we’d be waiting five years for anything else to come out! What we are at least the most confident in at this point is that the story will deliver — especially since Manganiello is a great choice to play this sort of adversary. He can play big and broad rather effectively, and that’s without noting that the guy is just imposing in his own right.
