Outlander season 8: Is a movie possible after series finale?

Following the events of Outlander season 8 on Starz this spring, is there a chance for more in this universe — or with these characters?

For the time being, let’s just go ahead and say that something could still very-much happen here. Speaking in a new interview per TV Insider, executive producer Matthew B. Roberts had the following to say about the prospects of a feature film: “We’re not closing the door. We always say, ‘Never say never.’ ”

Now, of course, context matters a good bit when it comes to thinking about a movie, and the aforementioned article does not specify what a movie would be. You could argue that it could be a Starz film focusing on Lord John or one of the other supporting characters. Another part of it may heavily depend on who actually survives Outlander itself. Because this season is going beyond the Diana Gabaldon material that is out there when it comes to a movie, it does create a situation where almost anything could happen.

Regardless of whether we get a movie someday or not, we are happy to know that there is more coming in this universe. A season 2 for Outlander: Blood of My Blood has already been filmed, and that is something we hope to see either later this year or early 2027. Meanwhile, there is always still a chance for other spin-offs. One thing that Starz has clearly shown with some other franchises like Power and Spartacus is that they are always eager to keep franchises going — at least so long as they have a great idea in order to do so. (We do think there will at least be patience when it comes to that.)
