Is Last Week Tonight with John Oliver new tonight on HBO? As many of you may be aware, February is often when the show returns from a long break. Is that going to happen here, as well?

Unfortunately, this is where we do have to jump in here to deliver a dose of unfortunate news: There is no installment of the late-night show tonight. The plan instead remains working to bring it back in seven days — which, when you think about it, is pretty normal. This show often starts back the week after the Super Bowl, a time in which it can generate more attention for itself separate from that competition.

Now that we’ve said all of that, we do tend to think that Last Week Tonight with John Oliver is poised to take on one of its biggest tasks in the history of the show at this point: The events of the past few months since it last aired. There is virtually no chance that they can actually cover everything that has happened, so where in the world do they start? Is there actually a place they can start? We imagine that we’ll get a wrap-up of events and then from there, at least one main segment that feels relevant to everything that is happening in the country right now.

If we do have a prediction here, it is that Oliver will take on a certain politically-charged topic known to files … at least through the lens of what happened as of late. It obviously is a tricky story to put together, but this is why the show has a thorough legal team that goes over almost everything before the show airs. They are often as careful in that regard as the series is hilarious.
