The Amazing Race 38 episode 9: An elimination shocker!

Heading into The Amazing Race 38 episode 9, we knew by virtue of previews alone some of what would transpire. However, we did not expect a Double U-turn would turn into a Triple!

Due to some shrewdness at the U-Turn vote, we ended up seeing a situation here where Tucker & Eric, Jag & Jas, and Taylor & Kyland ended up having to do both of the tasks in Athens. Luckily, some of the Detour choices were not super-hard … but tasting the different olives was certainly the most challenging of the two. Jag & Jas were able to make reasonably short work of everything, though, to the point that they were still in first place after the Detour.

Heck, we will go a step further here in saying that Jag & Jas pulled off something remarkable here in finishing the whole leg first despite starting off in big trouble. From here, things got a little bit more interesting. The Roadblock proved to be a relative equalizer, since it really came down to just how quickly people could memorize letters of the Greek alphabet. This was really an exercise in patience as much as it was almost anything else; you had to slow down and focus and if you could do that, things were a little bit easier.

Ultimately, this challenge did produce the most shocking outcome of the entire season, mostly because Tucker could not figure out what he was doing wrong the majority of the time. He kept feeling confident, only to keep missing out and watching a lot of other teams end up passing him. By virtue of that, he and Eric actually left the Race, making this the second time that we have seen Tucker ultimately be his own worst enemy when it comes to completing some of this stuff.
