Twisted Metal renewed for season 3; new showrunner named

Mere hours after we speculated over the future of Twisted Metal over at Peacock, we are thrilled to have more news regarding its future.
According to a new report over at Deadline, the series is going to be coming back for a third chapter! However, it will be doing so with a few fundamental changes at the top. Michael Jonathan Smith will not be returning as showrunner after spearheading the first two seasons of the video-game adaptation. In his place, you are going to be seeing David Reed of The Boys / Supernatural take over.

As fantastic as we found the first two seasons at the streaming service to be, we still did have our fair share of questions about the long-term future. After all, Peacock does not release viewership info for any of their shows, but Twisted Metal is seemingly an expensive show based on a video-game property that is not necessarily front of mind for younger audiences. There were still two different things the series had going for it, whether it be a big-name lead in Anthony Mackie and two seasons of content that were a total blast to watch.
Moving into the next chapter, we are also rather grateful to seemingly know what the next story will be. After all, the conclusion to season 2 suggested that an all-out war could be coming on the horizon. Meanwhile, it also does appear as though Sweet Tooth’s father, known as Dark Tooth in the source material, will be playing a role, as well. We’re sure that some of the absurdity from the first two seasons will be here along with the humor, but we are venturing into absolutely chaotic and violent territory. We are curious already to see what the end results could be.
