‘The Walking Dead’: Robert Kirkman reflects on success; season 4 production continues
During an interview with CNN’s George Stroumboulopoulos (which you can see part of below), the writer explains some back-story for those who don’t know about the early days of the comic, and also reflects on what has now become an enormous success. This series is not only the #1 show on TV in the 18-49 demographic, but a talk show framed around it also has better ratings than a good chunk of the stuff that airs on networks. This understandably boggles Kirkman’s mind, and there is potential for more of the same when season 4 (which is currently in production, and being described as “epic” by those close to the set) premieres on AMC this fall.
There is a pretty interesting story behind this interview beyond just the subject of Kirkman and “The Walking Dead.” Stroumboulopoulos is hoping to firm up a new talk show for the cable news network following many years of success in Canada on the CBC; we enjoyed and appreciated his show year ago, but now the challenge is trying to figure out a way to get a whole new crowd of viewers to watch you who may have no idea who you are. The show got off to weak numbers, but should have a chance to grow a little bit more on Friday nights.
