‘Survivor: Blood vs. Water’: Jeff Probst gives more details on cast, twists

SurvivorWhile we have talked and speculated about “Survivor: Blood vs. Water” over the past month, there is still so much that is unknown. How is this “favorites vs. family” twist really going to work? While the simple suggestion seems to be a team of family members and a team of returning players competing against each other, it doesn’t have to necessarily work that way. For example, what if most of the family members fail to ever end up on the same tribe as the returning players? It’s a gamble that could work well or not at all, and every other rumor that we’ve heard includes everything from pairs on tribes working together, to the return of the largely-maligned (at least on the internet) Redemption Island.

Jeff Probst, is in the process of promoting the new edition of his Stranded books, and in one chat with Entertainment Weekly’s radio show, he at least suggested that the game we see, regardless of how the family members are implemented, will not be that different:

“We didn’t change anything to the format at all other than bringing on loved one … But we anticipate that it will change the show, that this twist will find new wrinkles in places we didn’t know they were. That’s what I’m guessing is going to happen — that the format doesn’t have to change at all, but because you have now complicated it severely by having your family members out there, that we’re going to discover things that we can’t even anticipate other than to anticipate that we’re going to discover new stuff.”

Probst also confirmed that only one person would win this season, which means to us that there is no particular reason to worry about having to see two people have some “aw shucks, we won” moment at the end. It’s not happening, and we thank the producers for that.

We’re still likely over a month away from the cast reveal, since we doubt producers are going to want to reveal too much until the show is far removed from production and no one can try to dig through spoilers based on plane tickets or Twitter feeds.
