‘Nurse Jackie’ renewed for season 6, Showtime confirms

Nurse JackieFans of “Nurse Jackie,” be prepared to celebrate: Your favorite complicated nurse now has a home for another year. In a statement on Thursday, Showtime confirmed the news that the Emmy-nominated series is not going to be going anywhere in the new future; not only that, but new showrunner Clyde Phillips is going to be staying on board after season 5 ended up increasing its overall audience across all platforms (which is really what they care about much more so than live viewing).

In that aforementioned statement, here is what Showtime’s boss David Nevins had to say about the move:

“Nurse Jackie is an essential part of the Showtime brand, and we are thrilled with the series’ growth in its fifth season … Under the new leadership of Clyde Phillips, and with an amazing cast led by Edie Falco, this show is as sharp and compelling and entertaining as ever. I’m excited to get to see the next chapter in Jackie’s life.”

The only sad news that comes with this renewal is that “New Girl” fans are going to continue to see only a small dose of Merritt Wever in the new season, as she will once again be firmly locked in with the “Nurse Jackie” cast. The show does not have a clear endgame just yet, and we could see it lasting for a couple more seasons if the ratings do manage to increase yet again. (After all, “Dexter” is ending after eight seasons a little later this summer.)

What do you think about the “Nurse Jackie” renewal, and how long do you think you are going to see the show stick around on the air? We want to hear your thoughts below! Also, you can find out more news about Wever and “New Girl” over at the link here.
