NBC’s ‘Community’ season 5: Dan Harmon officially returning
“Community” fans, the wait to figure out whether or not Dan Harmon is returning to the show is finally over. In a series of posts on Twitter Saturday, the show’s creator, who was sidelined last weekend after a series of public incidents (including some pretty concrete evidence that he and star Chevy Chase were not exactly getting along anymore), confirmed that he will be back for the fifth season of the fan favorite NBC comedy.
A few months ago, it appeared as though there was about a 0% chance that we would ever see “Community” return for a fifth season … let alone have the man responsible for delivering to us so many classic episodes in the first place back at the helm.
There seem to be two primary reasons why we believe that Harmon was brought back for more, even with all of the water under the bridge.
1. Ratings – With Dan back, we have a feeling that diehard “Community” fans will come back, even some who sat out season 4 after a string of pretty disappointing outings early on.
2. Quality – As we said, there were some weaker episodes … but we also must admit that some towards the end were rather strong. With Harmon, however, even the weaker episodes were better than the vast majority of every other comedy on TV. Let’s just hope that he is coming on board with some brilliant ideas at his disposal.
