‘Best Ink’ season 2, episode 9 review: Did DJ Tambe, Jerod Ray make finale?
In just one week, “Best Ink” is going to come to a close on Oxygen, and leading into it, we could really call Wednesday night’s episode “a tale of two pairs.” You have DJ Tambe and Teresa Sharpe, who have basically been tattoo machines all season long, and then you have Alli Baker and Jerod Ray, who have each had their fair share of struggles. Given that Jerod has come up stronger as of late, it’s likely that Alli is probably going to be the person heading out the door before the finale.
So, did that happen? The first interesting wrinkle here is that after Jerod won the flash challenge, he had the opportunity to pick who he wanted to face off with directly in the ink challenge, which was the extremely-taunting task of having to place ink on a family member. He of course picked Alli, thinking that he could beat her, and also hoping that one of the beasts in the competition would go home.
Well … Jerod at least got some of what he wanted. Alli’s biggest flaw may have been her past track record, and also doing much of the same thing (i.e. roses) that she has pretty much done all season long. Meanwhile, Alli was up against Teresa for elimination, mostly because the judges “didn’t get it.” It’s not that the tattoo was bad, but they literally had nothing else to say negative about it outside of them not understanding the connection that she had with her boyfriend. (Given that he’s been a boyfriend for 11 years without putting a ring on it, we’re not sure we understand it, either … though that’s probably none of our business.)
This was really a no-brainer that Alli was going home, but she probably feels pretty good about herself right about now. She made it much further in the competition than we thought she would earlier this season, and as much as she doubted herself at times, she didn’t give up.
