‘Arrow’ season 2 spoilers: Pair of Big Bad villains coming

When “Arrow” season 2 picks up on The CW next year, get ready to expect something slightly different from the villains department. Namely, the story is going to be more geared around a pair of nefarious characters than it is a whole motley crew of them.

Take a look at the roster from season 1: We had Deadshot, China White, The Count, the Huntress, Deathstroke, the Dark Archer, and many other baddies that dominated when it came to screen time. However, we’d consider Malcolm Merlyn to be the only one that was actually on the Big Bad level in terms of evil.

So how is thing going to change? Executive producer Marc Guggenheim explains in an interview with TV Guide:

“We made no secret of the fact that we subscribe to the Whedonesque model of having a big bad, and in Season 2, we’ll actually have two big bads … They’ll both be very recognizable names to fans of the comic book. We’re really excited about both of them.”

So who are these two villains going to be? We know already that Deadshot is going to have a much larger role thanks to the Diggle storyline, which could expand into something far greater moving forward. Meanwhile, a good percentage of the villains we mentioned above (with the exception of Malcolm, who is presumed dead) are still out there, even if some of the actors have other roles booked elsewhere. (For example, Jessica de Gouw is starring on NBC’s “Dracula” revival.)
