‘Happy Endings,’ ‘Malibu Country,’ ‘Red Widow,’ ‘Body of Proof’ canceled by ABC

Happy EndingsWith good news inevitably comes bad news for someone else in the TV business … which also means that some people on this list are going to have some pretty sad Mother’s Day coming up.

While ABC was very generous when it came to some of their renewals, including some that we did not see coming at all, there were some surprises mixed in there. “Nashville” and “Revenge” didn’t exactly blow anyone’s hair back when it came to the ratings, but they still managed to be brought back for more.

Unfortunately, some of the shows below cannot say the same. So let us begin the slow, painful walk towards TV death.

“Happy Endings” – Easily the show that has people the saddest. By far, this was the funniest thing on TV that no one watched this year, not even an over-the-top “save Happy Endings” campaign, which we still think was designed to make ABC look like they tried, could keep it around. Our theory is that another network (possibly USA) will at least give it a look.

“Malibu Country” – Even for Fridays, its ratings were bad. Therefore, Tim Allen’s “Last Man Standing” better start putting out applications for new time-slot partners.

“Body of Proof” – The only thing Dana Delaney and company proved this year is that reboots a couple of seasons in do not often work.

“Red Widow” – Did this show ever even have a chance? Had you even heard of it? #ShouldHaveKeptPanAm

“Family Tools” – This was given a few short weeks to try and build into something big. It didn’t.

“How to Live With Your Parents (for the Rest of Your Life)” – This is the only show we blame 100% on ABC. The premiere numbers were great, and had they not aired this show in the spring and forced it to go without a lead-in early on in its run, we’d be seeing a season 2.

There’s so much news to try and sift through on this busy Friday, but don’t worry: We’re here for you. You can read more about some of the good news from ABC here.
