‘Downton Abbey’ season 4 star teams up with ‘Game of Thrones’ actor … for what?
What is it with all of the bizarre connections between the worlds of “Game of Thrones” and “Downton Abbey”? First, we had Rose Leslie coming over to the HBO drama as Ygritte, a love interest for Jon Show, following her time on the ITV period piece. Now, a “Downton Abbey” star is teaming up with a “Game of Thrones” hero on a feature film … one where they will be very much in love.
Sources confirm that Richard Madden, otherwise known as Robb Stark, has landed the role of the prince in the upcoming live-action adaptation by Disney of “Cinderella.” The movie is being directed by “Thor’s” Kenneth Branagh, and Lily James (Rose on “Downton Abbey”) is playing the title princess. Cate Blanchett is playing the part of the evil stepmother, which clearly shows you what sort of direction that this film is heading in.
The success of Madden landing this role further shows the sort of prestige that comes with being on this HBO series. Kit Harrington has landed a number of movie roles, and was even set at one time to play Lancelot before the film fell through for the time being. Emilia Clarke has revived “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” on Broadway, and has been up for a number of other significant roles. Meanwhile, we’re also assuming that big things are eventually going to be on the way for young actresses Sophie Turner (Sansa) and Maisie Williams (Arya) once they start to become even more experienced as actors.
Are you thrilled for Madden, and do you agree with the perception that exists now that premium TV shows are in many ways the perfect breeding ground for successful film actors?
