2013 Daytime Emmys: ‘The Young and the Restless,’ ‘General Hospital’ lead

EmmysThere is almost something sad that comes at times from reading the Daytime Emmy nominations, mostly because you are in some ways now holding a window up to a time gone by. The daytime drama nominees are all so limited now by the number of shows on the air that there is less competition, and the fact that “One Life to Live” made it this year despite having only a tiny sample size due to its cancellation on ABC really speaks volumes. (The show returned this week to Hulu and iTunes.)

Meanwhile, it has now become the Outstanding Talk Show award that is really the most competitive, since you have to be doing something pretty darn fantastic to find your way in here.

Check out all of the major nominees below

Outstanding Drama Series – “The Bold and the Beautiful” (CBS), “Days of Our Lives” (NBC), “General Hospital” (ABC), “One Life to Live” (ABC), “The Young and the Restless” (CBS)

Writing for a Drama Series – “The Bold and the Beautiful,” “General Hospital,” “One Life to Live,” “The Young and the Restless”

Lead Actress in a Drama – Susan Flannery (“The Bold and the Beautiful”), Peggy McCay (“Days of Our Lives”), Michelle Stafford (“The Young and the Restless”), Heather Tom (“The Bold and the Beautiful”)

Lead Actor in a Drama – Peter Bergman (“The Young and the Restless”), Doug Davidson (“The Young and the Restless”), Michael Muhney (“The Young and the Restless”), Jason Thompson (“General Hospital”)

Outstanding Morning Program – “CBS Sunday Morning,” “Good Morning America” (ABC), “Today” (NBC)

Outstanding Talk Show / Entertainment – “The Ellen DeGeneres Show,” “Live! with Kelly and Michael,” “The View,” “The Talk”

Outstanding Game Show – “Cash Cab,” “Family Feud,” “Jeopardy!,” “Let’s Make a Deal,” “The Price Is Right,” “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire”

The only major complaint that we have here? Where is “Wheel of Fortune”! The idea of “Cash Cab” getting in before an institution is completely beyond us. What do you think about these nominations? If you want to read more gossip related to the Emmys, you can do so over at the link here.
