‘The Following’ finale spoilers: Kevin Bacon teases possible season 2 plot
In just a matter of hours, the season finale of “The Following” will be upon us, and from this perspective that really just means one thing: Trying to figure out how in the world this story can end, while at the same time giving us something to look forward to in the new year.
So is Joe Carroll going to be destroyed in the closing minutes of this episode? We don’t know the answer to that just yet, however, Kevin Bacon tells TVLine that there is going to be a number of interesting twists and turns that take place, while the show at the same time works to reach an ending that is true to some of the characters:
“I’m always interested in where can we go emotionally, because that’s the stuff that I’m more drawn to … I found it very moving when I read the script, and as I was in the scenes, and when I watched the finale. It’s kind of epic in a way — epic and gothic — and at the same time personal.”
As for the prospects of a season 2 storyline, Bacon promises that there will at least be something for the show to go on once it airs again either in the fall or early next year:
“Let me put it this way… I think the ending is going to be shocking, but like with all good cliffhangers, there is also some stuff left up in the air.”
Luckily, the show knew about its renewal in enough time that they could concoct an ending with this specific purpose in mind, that way there was no attempt at scrambling at the last minute in order to try and make something work.

Epic and personal? What is Kevin bacon smoking? This show is a giant sh*tstain on what otherwise has been a reputable career.

The finale was fantastic, beautifully suspenseful, masterfully acted. Great cliffhanger—I’m not really sure I believe Joe is dead, and can’t wait to see what happens with Ryan and Claire, and hope to see Emma and Molly caught next season.

The cliffhanger is too contrived. As far as I am concerned, Ryan and Claire are both dead or crippled for life, and I am not going to hang around for next season. It really made me lose interest in the show.

what was the point of showing the girl in the diner in alabama? what is she going to have to do with the next season? Is the cult going to grow more with the “death” of joe and if so who will be the next leader if joe is actually dead?

Since when doesn’t the FBI have access to a heat sensing chopper to find their agent (Parker) buried 2 feet under the soil. Only one of many poor law enforcement procedures missed on this show….but I still Love it!

And why were Ryan and the other guy the only FBI looking for her? lol

Aaannd Ryan didn’t do CPR properly!!! He could have saved her if he had bothered to try for more than two pumps to her chest! You’re supposed to do a 30 count. Sheesh.

Very suspenceful, lots of nerve racking moments… Will Claire and Ryan survive? They could… there are too many cult members like Emma still left for this show not to be extended. Revenge is definitley on the horizon will see how it plays out. It sucks to have to wait until the fall to find out.

OK, I have never ever looked at forums and blogs after a finale. I have never posted about a movie or a show. I could not wait to see what people were talking about after the finale. That finale was like a piece of art. It was amazing how the show was brought to an end with all of the complexities and nothing seemed out of place, too quick, too slow or cheesy. I actually had chills for a few minutes after. Just amazing and maybe one of the best experiences I have ever had while watching a series or a movie. I was really tied up in Vikings and thought that was a fun and exciting show to see what was coming next but things seem to be dragging on there to bring it all together and I never felt that in the Following. Just a great job all around.

They claimed Joe Carroll was dead by dental and DNA confirmation but we all know the loophole that “The cult took the time to change the dental and DNA records of Joe etc etc etc.” In addition, was the ending not poorly set up? I mean come on….a lighthouse…a cornfield…a messy boat marina that explodes? I have seen that all too many times. Not to mention the whole drunk and painkiller abusing Joe was not at all threatening. If he was in complete control they could have made him more threatening and scary…I have never seen Hannibal in some weird drunken narcotic state and that was one reason why he was creepier…he was in control and knew exactly what he was doing. This show needs some major help, but I still liked it essentially. I’m just so glad Hannibal is on TV and filling what The Following struck out on. On a side note, I am very glad they kept Shawn Ashmore but I’m still awaiting a moment when Shawn suddenly reveals he has been a deep mole since the beginning which would be quite a twist.

(you mean ryan) aaaaand there’s a second season?.. seriously did Joe Carroll write the ending of that season? not so much of a cliffhanger as a disappointment and stupid way to end a season (altho the idea of her stabbing them made sense). I wont be watching season 2 aside to see how Ryan survives.

They won’t find Joe’s body & he’ll come back next season burned & out for blood.
