ABC’s ‘Splash’ may lose another player in Nicole Eggert
Can we just re-name “Splash” at this point “The Revolving Door”? We’ve covered a substantial amount of reality TV over the years, and we’re not quite sure that we have ever seen a series suffer so many injuries and walk-offs than this one. It may just go to show you that while there are some series that have the capability to put stars in dangerous situations for entertainment, that does not necessarily guarantee that it is a good idea to do so.
The latest injury to follow up the likes of Chuy Bravo and Katherine Webb, who recently withdrew from the competition, is former “Baywatch” star Nicole Eggert. TMZ reports that Eggert was injured this week by landing in the water hard following a dive, and that she was hospitalized and released a few hours later. Her current status in the competition is unclear, but we suspect all will be revealed on Tuesday night’s new episode.
With the injuries piling up, it is safe to ask the following question: is this show really that safe to continue on? We know that there is an advanced staff of medical professionals overseeing the contestants, but we’re starting to wonder if some of the contestants eliminated early on are counting their lucky stars. One person who clearly is thinking this way is Kendra Wilkinson, who quit the competition and admitted that she regretted ever signing on in the first place.
The truth of the matter is probably this: if you go on this show, you have to expect there to be a certain level of danger that goes along with it. Therefore, don’t be surprised if you get injured. Plus, “Splash” is really just following in the footsteps of “Dancing with the Stars,” who has featured dozens of contestants over the years who have suffered injuries and continued on.
Do you think all of these injuries will discourage celebrities from doing more competitive reality shows in the future? If you want to read our take on what happened on “Splash” earlier this week, you can do so over at the link here.
