‘The Vampire Diaries’ season 4 spoilers: Is there any hope for Matt Donovan?
We’ve talked quite a bit over the years about some of the various characters on “The Vampire Diaries,” but through it all there is one man who has consistently been one of the most-overlooked: Matt Donovan. After all, this is a normal guy that is jammed in the middle of a vampire-infused world, and there are a number of questions that could with that moving forward. When he graduates high school, is he going to leave Mystic Falls? While he has friendships with many of the characters and even dated Caroline and Elena for a time, there is also a chance for him to get away from having his life constantly in danger.
Luckily, it appears that these are questions that are finally going to be explored on the show moving forward. While there are not too many episodes left in the season, executive producer Julie Plec tells Zap2It in a new interview that one of her personal missions moving into the finale in making sure that Zach Roerig gets the attention that he (and his character) truly deserve:
“He looks around at all the people in his life that are about to graduate, maybe move on to college, or go off and live some supernatural destiny elsewhere, and then here he is figuring out his next step. He’s thinking, ‘Do I have any options? What are they? And what do I want to do now that I’m free to get away from all of this if I want to?'”
Personally, we would like to see Matt get a new love interest and try to establish some sort of normal life for himself again, mostly because he has dealt with so much drama related to other people. Of course, that would also make for boring TV … so we are probably going to see something far greater than that.
