‘The Vampire Diaries’ season 4 photo: Daniel Gillies’ Elijah goes dapper

As we teased yesterday, Thursday night’s new “Vampire Diaries” season 4 episode is going to feature a return appearance from none other than Daniel Gillies’ character of Elijah. He has long been an international man of mystery for the show, and ever since his debut during the second season, has popped in and out. This season has been in some ways the saddest for fans of the character; thanks to some of Gillies’ other assorted commitments, he has only managed to appear in one episode to this point (and that was via a flashback).

However, the first photo attached here from Thursday’s “American Gothic” proves that Elijah is back in the present, and he is dressed in his Sunday best. What in the world is he doing? That much is still a little unclear, but he does certainly look rather snazzy in this suit. Supposedly, Elijah will run into at least one character played by Nina Dobrev, as both Elena and Katherine are seemingly on a collision course in Pennsylvania. The cure, as you would have expected, is very much involved here.

Luckily, we know already that this will not be the last time we see Gillies this season. He will at least be around again for the backdoor pilot for “The Originals,” which will set up the spin-off series that will almost surely be picked up by The CW for the fall. We know that Elijah is in many ways the more sensible member of this Original family, and we’re hoping to see a little bit more of his past moving forward.
