‘The Big Bang Theory’ season 6 spoilers: Bob Newhart to guest star!
Remember when we teased yesterday that there was a big-name guest star (and a personal hero of executive producer Bill Prady) joining “The Big Bang Theory” for a certain season 6 episode? Well, we’ve now found out who that person is, and they happen to be a bit of a comedy living legend.
According to a new report from TVLine, it is none other than the incomparable Bob Newhart who be appearing during the show’s May 2 episode. This is the first appearance on a sitcom by the actor in more than a decade, and he is going to be playing what is roughly the show’s version of Bill Nye the Science Guy. “Professor Proton” was one of Sheldon’s favorite shows as a kid, and so when he finds out that the man is now hiring himself out for events, he decides to take advantage of the opportunity and books him to come by the apartment.
For some of the people involved in the show, this is almost a nice opportunity to get a little bit of a historical perspective for what is going on with the show. When you are working inside of a bubble like much of the “Big Bang Theory” cast does, it may be true that you don’t really get a full sense of the lasting impact that your show has. Newhart has been so lucky as to have two enormous hit shows, and it has allowed him to become a legend to the point where he really does not have to go around and do much else.
What do you think about the Newhart casting? Be sure to share some of your thoughts below, and you can also visit the story over here if you want to learn a little bit more about a medical emergency sweeping the show soon.

Bob Newhart has always been a favorite of mine. TBBT could not have done better – and that includes Wm Shatner!

Well done BBT. However I’d still like to see Meemaw (Patty Duke? Sally Fields?) and Sheldon’s college physics advisor (wouldn’t Chris Lloyd be perfect?
